CAFE: Calgary Association of Freelance Editors

A professional organization for local freelance editors

Carrie Mumford

I get my kicks from finding and felling typos, and helping others polish their written work. A writer myself, I have a passion for concise, correct and clear writing and am sensitive to writer’s needs. I offer professional, honest and respectful feedback on all types of written communication.

My editing specialties include creative writing/fiction and web content, although I look forward to working with words in any genre. I am a member of the Calgary Association of Freelance Editors (CAFE), the Editors’ Association of Canada and the Writers Guild of Alberta.

I have been a freelance editor for over two years, during which time I have had the opportunity to work with both publishers and independent authors. I’ve edited novels, short stories, business communications and plays (among other materials).

My formal academic background includes a B.A. in English Literature and a master’s degree in Information Studies. I have completed several editing and publishing courses towards a certificate in publishing from Ryerson University. Over the past 9 years I have worked as a market researcher and online marketing consultant (including copy writing, copy editing, content management and social media account management). I also help authors and creative professionals create blogs and websites.

When I’m not taking part in word-related activities, I enjoy practising yoga, blogging, and tweeting up a storm (@CarrieMumford).
